Filming for Netflix

I had the absolute pleasure to film for a new Netflix series called “Restaurants on the Edge”.

Restaurants on the Edge is a premium content docuseries that explores local restaurants around the world that need a bit of help or inspiration with their food or decor. Each restaurant is on the edge of beauty (an ocean, lake, mountain) and a bit on the edge business-wise. Our three hosts - Restaurateur Nick Liberato, Chef Dennis Prescott, and Designer Karin Bohn dive into local culture, food and design of the city or region we're visiting, and then do a fast, furious, chic makeover of the restaurant based on what they've learned.

They filmed an episode in Hong Kong in late May, working with a small restaurant in Tai O on Lantau Island.  I had the honor of working as s Hong Kong based food photographer to help out restaurant owners Charlene and Clifford take beautiful images for their social media. I met the host Nick.

I soon found out that Charlene and Clifford were also passionate photographers, but the hobby mainly extends to travel photography. I was able to give them a crash course in the art of food photography which they would use their new skills to take their own photos of their own food for tier IG account, boosting their restaurant's Instagram feed,  the look of their own menu, and their overall restaurant brand.

The basics of the skills were learnt in an article I wrote for Tatler some years ago, it is attached below;

The location was set on temple street, and I was able to get some street food (dim sum and food on a stick), and show them how easy it was to photography it contextually. ended up being a huge success.

Below are some of the final images we took. I tweaked them slightly in Lightroom.
