Professional Food Photography Brief

Tip 1 - CLIENT BRIEF

There are many ways to approach food photography and styling. Some clients prefer simple low budget shoots, whilst others prefer a full on shoot with stylists and many lighting options. Usually having a brief and budget to work with can help determine the style of photos needed, and whether the shoot is a simple or large scale one.

Tip 2 - PLAN THE SET

Usually having a planned setup can make the process more streamlined, and can really get to the core of creativity within budgetary guidelines of the client. Photographers can be ultra portable with their setups and can achieve optimal results depending on the needs.

TIP 3 - LOCATION OF SETUP

The restaurant, bar or location should determine the actual location of setup for photographers, one where there is minimal traffic and quite close to the kitchen or area of production.

TIP 4 - FIND USP (Unique Selling Proposition)

Find out what makes the location unique and use that in the food shots to help with branding and management of marketing.

TIP 5- DETERMINE STAR ITEMS

Determine to shoot the items that will drive sales, and discuss this with your photographer. This will help feature items that are tangible to customers and drive sales.
